Not bad. The melody is pretty nice, but it gets pretty repetitive. The square lead can get a bit grating after three minutes too. Another thing you could try is adding a bit more background and some more tropical instruments. For example, maybe download some tropical drum loops and look into a guitar vst or something like Nexus. Sylenth would also help with creating leads. You're definitely improving, you just need a nudge in the right direction sometimes, and that's what I'm here to help with :)

DJ-Zyzyx responds:

Yeah, and thanks! I want to get some VST's and synths like Nexus and RealGuitar but I'm pretty sure that they're all super overpriced. Maybe sometime in the future I'll buy one.

Here's a few tips for mixing: If you add a limiter to your sounds they won't clip. Also, if you don't raise the volume of the synths/instruments above 0db they won't clip either.

Evilgrapez responds:

Yeah, I found out about limiters after this preview. And actually, some instruments of mine will actually clip even if they're just at 0db. Thanky anyway for the tips though! :)

Wow... I actually really like this one. Keep up the great work. I heard a few clipping issues, which are pretty easy to fix. Just make sure you're not raising the volume above 0db, and make sure everything is limited. If you lower rather than raise, your mixes will sound better. This is still great though, I can see great songs in your future!

Miyolophone responds:

Thank you! Yes, I was trying to make it Geometry Dash-ready, but I've sort of abandoned that at this point because my songs aren't great for Geometry Dash anyway... so yes, I'll be sure not to clip as much as possible now. Thanks for the praise! :D

I have to agree with Maverick and Del on this one. The sounds do sound generic for default plugins and they don't really fit the genre. Presets good to use when you're learning how to make music. If you try to cram sound design in too, it'll make a pretty good song into an okay one. Find a nice preset pack and then find the sounds you think would fit. Listen to lots of similar music to what you're making. Pick sounds like that. Supersaws and plucks are very common in house, so if you're going to make electronic, those are essential to know how to make and tweak to your liking. Still, presets can still have good saws and plucks and much more that you can use while making music. It wouldn't be a bad idea to invest in a plugin like Sylenth. You'll be able to make much more electronic sounding sounds with it and it will bring your music up to a whole new level.

DJ-Zyzyx responds:

Isn't sylenth like $500? Pretty expensive

The sounds used sound a bit generic. Otherwise, not bad.

Irish-Soul responds:

I agree. This was one of my first songs. I am working currently to make a somewhat realistic song through GarageBand. Wish me luck :P

Not bad, you're getting better at this.

DJ-Zyzyx responds:

Lol I think this is pretty bad xD

Hmm... I'm not sure if you understand what "Instrumental" is. Instrumental is basically a where a song is taken that has vocals, and turned into a song without vocals. This is better classified as a remake or remix. That aside, it's an interesting remake.

AlexIsAwesome500 responds:

I know, it's just by instrumental I meant using natural instruments.

Great cover! It doesn't sound like the original very much, but it does have it's own unique spin on it, which I quite like!

Miyolophone responds:

I really am lucky XD But on the other hand, he added your remix to his favorites. No such luck for me.

Yes, I had someone tell me that I sounded sort of constrained with my previous cover, and that I should do something with more of my personal touch. Honestly, I had a lot more fun doing it that way. I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Hmm... That first lead... I would have liked it better if it was more of a square pluck. It sounds kinda distorted which makes the song sound a bit messy in my opinion. I find a song sounds clean and fresh if squares and sines are used more often than saws. Underlying supersaws can help with filling up the remaining space. Bass should fill up most of the space in a drop and should really carry everything else. Another thing I would do is always have it be gaining energy in some way or another. If more than four measures are repeated without any progression, it tends to sound repetitive. Also, try and make the second half of the song different in some way. This feels like the second half is the same as the first half. Otherwise, the rhythm is interesting and the melody is nice, just a bit repetitive.

DJ-Zyzyx responds:

Honestly I think the drop needs more power and the drums are absolutely horrible. Idk how to add better drums to Logic, but this beat is SO cringy. I need better samples :V

This is really good. Especially without any great VSTs. Just goes to show that you don't need a ton of great programs to make great music :)

Miyolophone responds:

Exactly :) My synths are really lacking, and the sounds I'm using are frustratingly inherently quiet, but that doesn't mean I can't make do...
